The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) yesterday
reiterated its call to local government units (LGUs) to ensure a smooth and
orderly transition of power and responsibilities to newly-elected officials in
the recently-concluded May 13 mid-term polls.
Memorandum Circular No. 2019-39 requires the creation of Local Governance
Transition Teams to be chaired by the local chief executive (LCE) with the
vice-chair to be elected from among the members by simple majority vote.

A “mentally unstable” man ran amok and hacked dead his wife, nephew,

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) has stepped up
operations against certain persons or groups believed to have plans to disrupt

A total of 19 persons were arrested in separate buy-bust operations conducted
by operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Bacolod City
Police Office (BCPO) between Friday and yesterday in the city.
On Friday, seven persons were apprehended in a drug den at Sitio Sibucao,
Barangay Banago during a raid conducted by agents of PDEA-Negros Occidental
Provincial Office (PDEA-NOPO) around 4:30 p.m.

A suspected leader of a drug group in Negros Occidental was killed in an
encounter with joint police operatives in a buy-bust at Estrella Subdivision,
Barangay 6 in Victorias City yesterday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Leoner Jalandoon, 44, a high-value target
in the regional police watch list.
Jalandoon’s 18-year-old live-in partner was arrested during the operation.

Two brothers who are considered high value targets (HVT) were arrested in a
drug buy bust operation past 1 a.m. yesterday in the area of Police Station 3.
Police Major Ruel Culanag of Police Station 3 and the Station Drug
Enforcement Unit identified the suspects as Erwin and Elias Pepino, both of
legal age and residents of Progreso Village in Arao Relocation Site, Barangay
Vista Alegre, Bacolod City.
Confiscated from them were nine sachets of “shabu”, digital weighing scale
and other drug paraphernalia. Police also recovered the P50 buy bust money.

The abduction of retired Police Major Lito Pirote on Good Friday morning at
Metro Inn in Bacolod is considered alarming, according to City Vice Mayor El Cid
Familiaran said, all incidents related to criminality are alarming especially
if these remain unsolved.

Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor said, the local government has taken steps to
ensure the safety of thousands of pilgirms and devotees expected to visit the
giant cross at the Holy Mountain (Glory Hill) in Barangay Mansablay in the town.
