Classes opened smoothly in Western Visayas, although there were reports of
late enrollees, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
Dr. Victor de Gracia, officer-in-charge at the office of the DepEd Assistant
Regional Director, said in an interview yesterday that their field offices have
not reported any problems at the start of classes.
He cited that supervisors both in the regional and division offices were
spread in various areas of the region to monitor the school opening.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental continues to facilitate the
transfer of its 17 offices occupying the Provincial Administration Center (PAC)
to identified temporary sites in Bacolod.
The offices have been directed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to vacate the

A total of 19 persons were arrested in separate buy-bust operations conducted
by operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Bacolod City
Police Office (BCPO) between Friday and yesterday in the city.
On Friday, seven persons were apprehended in a drug den at Sitio Sibucao,
Barangay Banago during a raid conducted by agents of PDEA-Negros Occidental
Provincial Office (PDEA-NOPO) around 4:30 p.m.

A suspected leader of a drug group in Negros Occidental was killed in an
encounter with joint police operatives in a buy-bust at Estrella Subdivision,
Barangay 6 in Victorias City yesterday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Leoner Jalandoon, 44, a high-value target
in the regional police watch list.
Jalandoon’s 18-year-old live-in partner was arrested during the operation.
