Rambutan is native to Southeast Asia. The fruits grow on an evergreen tropical tree with a height of 12–20 m. The name Rambutan (hairy fruit) is derived from the Malay language word "rambut" meaning 'hair'. It has been widely cultivated in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
